19-22 April 2010

This week I will be doing research base work. I have been assigned to handle secondary research for SMBG Malaysia (Self-monitoring blood glucose market). The purpose of this research is to help client to investigate the market trend of self-monitoring blood glucose devices. There are few criteria for this research which is drivers, restraints, market trend, future trend and government initiative.

The drivers are what cause the increase/decrease of diabetes. What are the drivers that drive the trend of diabetes? Restraints are what cause the drivers to happen. And market trend is the prevalence and incident rate of diabetes in the society. Future trend would be the future technology that will be used to drive this diabetes and what new technology has been invented to cure this sickness. Government initiative is effort from the government in promoting the awareness of diabetes.

From this research, I realize that Malaysia has a really high prevalence and incidents rate of diabetes patients. In Malaysia, an estimated 1.33 million suffer from diabetes, of which more that half are not aware that they have the disease.

Besides doing this research, I also need to do some translation work from English to Chinese for the questionnaire that be used during the interview with some china company.
